Craig Wins Singlespeed ’Cross Title
Cheered on by the hometown crowd in Bend, Craig finished seventh in the elite men's race.
Adam Craig of the
Rabobank-Giant team had a busy weekend in Bend, Oregon,
winning one race at the
U.S. Cyclocross Championships, and finishing
top-10 in another. Craig, an Olympic mountain biker who lives in Bend, was a hometown favorite in the cold, rain-soaked event that took place December 9-12.
Craig kicked off the competition with a
win in the singlespeed category, becoming the first national champion in the new event. He rode his specially built
singlespeed TCX Advanced SL to a convincing win, topping close to 100 starters on the muddy, slippery course.
Craig raced again in Sunday's main event, finishing
seventh in the elite men’s race, 2:40 behind winner Todd Wells.
Craig’s main focus is cross-country mountain bike racing, but with ’cross nationals taking place near his home in Bend, he extended his season to take part. Craig’s fellow Giant rider,
Carl Decker, also competed in Bend, finishing 18th in the elite men's race.
